Marketing executive search for Chilean relief organization Hogar de Cristo and Egon Zehnder International, Santiago de Chile
Although Chile’s economy has significantly improved over the last fifty years, 850,000 Chileans still live on less than 1USD a day and the average education level is 8 years.
Hogar de Cristo (The Christ Shelter Foundation) is the most important non-profit organization in Chile. It currently supports over 30,000 people, including the elderly and children living in precarious conditions, as well as drug addicts, by offering them a place to live and rehabilitation opportunities. Since its creation in 1945, the foundation has built 15,000 social houses and granted micro credits to 4,500 entrepreneurs. In recognition for his work for the poor, the organization’s founder Alberto Hurtado, a Salesian priest was named a “pious man” by Pope John Paul II and is expected to be beatified in 2005.
Egon Zehnder International Chile was selected to assist the organization in finding a Deputy Marketing Manager. The new executive was expected to develop an efficient strategy for marketing and segmentation projects. S/he needed to be committed to the organization’s mission, as well as the specific challenges offered by a non-profit organization. Within a short time, Egon Zehnder consultants were able to provide a shortlist of top-level marketing experts. In the end, a highly motivated female MBA graduate specializing in marketing and CRM issues was retained.
