Enhancing board effectiveness in corporate India

Corporate governance issues have generated intense debate and discussion worldwide. As India takes rapid strides towards becoming an economic "superpower," one of the key success factors for Indian businesses is corporate governance. Indian boards are currently aiming to benchmark their corporate governance practices against those of the world's best organizations. In this context Egon Zehnder International and The Wharton School decided to organize the third annual Executive Education program Governing the Corporation: Enhancing the Effectiveness of the Board in India. This year's program, held on 13-15 March in Mumbai, India, offered strategic insights into boardroom dynamics encompassing sessions on mergers, acquisitions, alliances and boardroom simulation. Alongside Wharton School faculty members, a number of speakers including David Kidd, head of the Global Board Practice at Egon Zehnder International; Mr. M. Damodaran, recently retired Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India and Mr. M. V. Subbiah, recently retired Chairman of the Muruguppa Group (one of India's leading family business conglomerates) shared their insights with around 25 senior industry participants.
